Normally, employers offer group health insurance plans to their employees as incentives to keep them working with them. For people that are self employed, group health insurance plans can be purchased through an association with which the self employed person is affiliated or as a 'group of one' plan if allow by his or her residing state laws.

Group health insurance plans are usually cheaper and lower in rates than individual health insurance plans. Note: Many trade organizations provide association group health insurance plans to members.

It is good to have an employer that provides group health insurance but this is not always the case. In a situation where the employers' package is not available, get a good group health insurance plan through an association or find it individually.
